Dramatic significance of Autolycus

In the play,  The Winter'e tale, Shakespeare uses characterisation as a main literary device. In this instances Autolycus is the character brought to light.

Autolycus in the play a pick-pocket or a thief. Shakespeares uses him to take light away from the drama going down in Sicilia with Leontes. Not only is he a thief but he is a storyteller and a magnificant singer, which means he may be very light hearted. In most plays written by shakespeare there is a character who is used to drawn attention from the main character and in the winter's tale autolycus is that person. he may be involved in trickery but he is not a villain. It may be believed that the dramactic  significance of Autolycus mainly was beacuase he was a servant to Florizel who he is very loyal too because when the sheperd was going to show Polixenes Perdita's belongs and the scroll autolyuc blocks it from happening.
